Startups, we know that selling to the public sector is tough. TOP LIVE TENDERSLocal authoritiesThe most prominent PIN coming out of Local Authorities this month is without a doubt from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). GMCA released a £300m contract notice for the Go Neutral programme aiming to decarbonise the region. The Go Neutral Smart Energy Framework seeks to deliver a wide range of smart energy technologies both within the current grid infrastructure and as standalone systems including integrated solar PV and battery storage, solar car ports, EV charging hubs, and grid-connected wind turbines in order to “create greener, healthier, and more affordable lifestyles”. This represents a substantial opportunity for startups in the green energy space to deliver a diverse range of products and services. Some PINs for smaller contracts with Local Authorities were also released including one from the City of Wolverhampton Council (CWC) which will part-funded by ERDF as part of the larger I3 SMART Infrastructure investment project (2019-2022). CWC is looking to procure 9,000 photo electric cell units as a part of the investment in low carbon infrastructure, making this contract fairly specific.Opportunities you may have missedIn early August it was announced that The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs awarded a £3.7m contract to Cyient Europe Limited for the provision of integrated geospatial digital mapping and remote sensing services and remote sensing. Under the contract, Cyient will deliver compliance monitoring, enforcement of statutory environmental conditions, and verification of subsidy scheme claims through remote inspection of land using computer aided photo interpretation (CAPI) and/or ML techniques. Beginning this month, this contract is set to extend until August 2023.A few smaller contracts were awarded this month including one for a medical software package from NHS Wales to be delivered by Priority Solutions Inc. The software package is fairly comprehensive, covering a diverse range of essential systems of the Welsh Ambulance Service (i.e. case management systems, integrated video conferencing, cloud-based referral storage, automation and digitisation of the audit process, etc.) all integrated into one platform.COVID TechAs Government continues to pursue tech-centered updates and improvements to the healthcare ecosystem following the Covid-19 pandemic, several Covid Tech contracts have been awarded this past month. Prominently, the Department of Health and Social Care has awarded two substantial contracts:
- a £2.2m contract to Kainos Software Limited for the provision of a product management tool to aid their COVID-19 testing supply chain. This is part of a larger aggressive change programme seeking to “transform products and services critical to the end-to-end COVID-19 testing supply chain”.
- a £1.1m contract to Cognizant Worldwide Limited for their user research and analysis for the product iteration of the COVID-19 certification programme (vaccines, tests etc.) in an effort to optimise user experience as international travel starts ramping up again.
